Dateline: Toronto, Ontario, Canada, June 10, 2013. Jay Deala is in control of his own destiny. He runs his own label and handles his own business. In addition to his rhyming and rapping skills, Deala hopes to use his ear and keen eye for finding talent to develop other artists for his label, M Way Entertainment Inc.
Jay is one of the first and most notable rap artists to emerge from Canada's South Asian community. He was born Harjinder Jay Singh in Canada to immigrant parents from the Indian subcontinent. Jay grew up in Toronto where his love of '90s gangsta rap had him beat boxing as his friends free styled in local parks and on street corners. Always knowing that he himself had the skills to rap, Jay eventually worked up the nerve to bust out his own rhymes. Through hard work, dedication and a love of hip hop, Jay continues to develop his style for a growing fan base. If anybody has the potential to cross over to a mainstream rap audience, it's Deala. He plans to do just that.
Jay loves all styles of music thanks to his early exposure to the music of his parents' native India. This multicultural influence has informed and shaped his own attitudes towards his music and the fans he hopes to gain with his new album. "Sincerely, Jay Deala The Album" is Jay's 17 track debut. It follows two mixtapes and the breakout "Ajaa" single and EP. Deala is proud of this fully realized record that not only showcases his lyrical talents and considerable abilities on the mic, but also demonstrates his ability to connect with people, regardless of their backgrounds or day jobs.
Jay is inspired by the gangsta rap of Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls,
Jay-Z and Ludacris, as well as Apache Indian and the production skills of
Timbaland and Panjabi MC. In addition to these players, Jay's music is influenced by his own life, his personal experiences and a range of emotions from joy to rage. A fresh new take on hip-hop that is infused with south asian influences sets Deala apart from the rest of the pack bringing an original revolutionary sound to the mainstream. These are the universal themes that give his music appeal across economic lines and national borders.
Jay Deala has been fortunate to share the stage with national acts like Panjabi MC, Apache Indian, Kardinal Offishall, Matthew Good Band,
