MIAMI FL. (Octone/ J Records) - Octone/J Recording artists Maroon 5 won the coveted "Best New Artist" award at last night's Video Music Awards, which were held in Miami, FL. The band's Sophie Mueller directed clip for their Number One hit " This Love" brought home the award in a category that included nominees Hoobastank, JoJo, Kanye West featuring Syleena, Yellowcard, Jet and The Darkness. Past winners of the silver moon man for Best New Artist include Gun 'n Roses, Nirvana, Alanis Morissette, Eminem, Alicia Keys and 50 Cent. Maroon 5, who couldn't be at the awards because they were wrapping up their highly successful tour with John Mayer in Atlanta last night, recently enjoyed their highest chart position ever, when their current album Songs About Jane reached Number 6 on the albums chart last week. More than two years since its release, the album continues to defy expectations and is one of the breakout success stories of the year. The band now heads off for an international trek through Japan and the UK.
