Magna Carta... Holy Grail 1 Million RIAA Certification First Day!

New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Roc Nation) Jay-Z makes history with Magna Carta Holy Grail #1 debut! Jigga moves 527,000 copies of his album for second best opening of the year.

The final figures pushed him well beyond the year's previous second placer, Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, which sold 339,000 in its debut. And while Jay did manage to get the RIAA to play by his #newrules and hand over his platinum plaque after the Samsung stunt, Billboard has steadfastly refused to count the mobile phone giveaway in its first-week sales figures.

The sales total for "Magna Carta" does not include 1 million copies Jay-Z sold to Samsung, which made them available July 4 to smartphone users through an app that has been widely criticized for its perceived privacy infringements.
