So, with nothing but a Gibson J45 acoustic guitar and copies of his solo record, Hey, San Pedro, Smith is heading off to
Europe this September. This odyssey began in 2012 when Smith raised more than five figures from Kickstarter, and fan contributions, which helped to record his debut solo album and fund the subsequent tour. These tour dates stretched from Manchester, England all the way to Siberia and laid the groundwork for this upcoming fall tour. In fact, Russian Rolling Stone just covered Smith's upcoming tour for the date in the Ukraine: https://rollingstone.ru/articles/music/news/17328.html
But
Europe was not the only proving ground for his solo tours as Smith also headlined club dates in many major U.S. cities including House of Blues (LA,
Chicago and Houston), the Living Room NYC and Seattle's Gibson showroom with guest guitarist
Roger Fisher (Heart). Smith went on to secure opening slots for iconic acts like New Order, Russia's
Mumiy Troll and Everclear. He even found himself standing center stage slightly dumbfounded performing at the legendary Greek theater in Los Angeles.
On this current trek, Smith will be backed by local European musicians, the high point of which will be an all-star event in Manchester on
September 12 when members of UK bands New Order, Marion,
Johnny Marr band, The Fall and Rubberbear will join him onstage after a week in the studio to work on his sophomore album.
Currently available on iTunes, Amazon and Amoeba Records, support for Hey San Pedro continues to build. In the U.S. the album has received radio from LA tastemakers at KCRW and KCSN, top press reviews (e.g. UK's Uncut, the LA Examiner), and performed at MTV Movie Awards' Gibson stage and Buzzbands.LA showcases. What's more, Smith borrows his accompanying musicians from a virtual who's who of musician friends who have performed with the likes of Tegan and Sara, Foo Fighters, Kesha, Ozomatli, Heart,
Jack Johnson and Herb Alpert.
Rickie Lee Jones was even seen in the front row at his performance in Echo Park.
The debut video from HSP, "Oh Caitlin" is a first look at Smith solo, and via YouTube has already received many views, great comments and top reviews worldwide.
