New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Plexi PR) Just in time for the start of fall, Los Angeles-based producers 12th Planet and Protohype have teamed up to deliver an exciting new collaboration, a four track EP called 'Transitions.' As its name suggests, the EP encompasses a variety of styles that transition into each other, from house to dubstep to drum and bass to drumstep to trap. 'Transitions' is available on SMOG Records now at all major online music retailers. Stream the entire 'Transitions' EP on SMOG's Soundcloud here.
The first track "Paper" starts out with a Bay Area hyphy vibe, progressively injected with high-octane bass fuel; as the bass mechanics build throughout the tune, it's backed by an increasingly funky breakbeat workout with a methodically placed skullstep snare. Check out the exclusive premiere of "Paper" on SPIN.com here: https://go.spin.com/1558Hth
The second track "Brick," a collaboration with Killagraham, features a bright, colorful video game-inspired melody that pitches up into a percussive house triplet groove, then transitions into a dubstep swing. The third track "
Shady" starts off as dubstep that breaks down into a rock-y chord driven synth riff and builds up into a drumstep doppleganger of its former self; check out the premiere on UKF here. The final track "Stinky" is a techy drum and bass roller that keeps the listener locked in at a ferocious pace and incorporates sporadic trap elements.
Hailed as one of bass music's foremost purveyors in Billboard's 'Year in Music' issue, SMOG frontman and co-founder 12th Planet has dominated the dance music scene with countless sold out shows spanning across multiple continents and chart-topping releases that have been featured in Rolling Stone, MTV, SPIN and Billboard to name a few. His influence has extended beyond bass music and encompasses the whole of electronic dance music, including what he describes as "transition music," a sound that incorporates diverse styles and tempos, and is showcased in this EP. Signed to the acclaimed Firepower Records, 22-year-old Protohype has collaborated with some of the top producers in the game such as Datsik, Paper Diamond and Terravita. His signature sound can be described as a perfect fusion of hip hop and bass music. A native of North Carolina, Killagraham started his career as a hip hop/scratch DJ in 2006 and began producing in 2008. His musical style takes influence from a variety of genres that include but are not limited to drum and bass, electro and dubstep.
'Transitions' is out now on SMOG Records and is available on Beatport, iTunes and all major online music retailers.
