New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ UMPG) Rondor Music International songwriter Billy Joel will be recognized at the 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, which will be nationally broadcast on Sunday, December 29th at 9:00 p.m. by CBS. The event's honorees are celebrated for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts and are selected by the Center's Board of Trustees. Seated with President and Mrs. Obama, the honorees will accept the thanks of their peers and fans through performances and tributes.
"Billy Joel's melodies have provided the soundtrack of our lives for over four decades, making him one of pop music's most prolific and memorable singers and songwriters," said Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein.
The event's other honorees include opera singer Martina Arroyo; pianist, keyboardist, bandleader and composer Herbie Hancock; actress Shirley MacLaine; and musician and songwriter Carlos Santana.
