Joshua Micah has a lot to be excited about as he prepares for the September
24th release of his debut EP "Let It Go
" (on Sea To Sun Recordings). The CT-based dance-pop/rock artist has been gaining a loyal online following at lightning speed since the December, 2012 release of his debut video and single, "When The World Ends." YouTube views have climbed to over 135,000 thanks to his fans' sharing on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The single was on rotation all summer on SiriusXM Radio's "20 On 20" pop station, and was recently featured on the ABC Family TV show "The Vineyard."
This past summer, Joshua joined Vine, the new smart phone-only app which hosts six-second videos and quickly became the top downloaded app of July. Responding to his fans' desire to see him in performance, Joshua began posting short clips of his version of today's most popular songs, with the hashtag #6secondcover. In just over one month, Joshua attracted more than 120,000 followers on Vine, and currently has 25,000+ followers on Twitter. His fan club, called The Joshua Micah Mission (www.joshuamicah.com) has been averaging hundreds of new members daily.
24th, Joshua will release "Let It Go," a five song original music EP including his single "When The World Ends." A sneak preview of "Let It Go
" can be heard on Soundcloud at: https://soundcloud.com/sea-to-sun/sets/joshua-micah-let-it-go-ep-1
For Joshua Micah, music is more than a vocation, it's a life mission. At the age of eight, he picked up a guitar and taught himself to play, and began to compose songs. "It felt like a natural progression from teaching myself to play drums when I was five," he jokes, noting his parents encouraged him to pursue his natural gift by replacing the pots and pans he practiced on with a drum set. "Looking back, I believe in my heart that I was born to make music."
His need to perform eventually broke Joshua out of his solitary music self-education. He started a band called, Light the City, and joined his local Manchester, CT church band. Both created a balance between the carefree energy of jamming with other musicians, and maintaining ties to his family's long-held spiritual faith. "It was truly the best of both worlds," Joshua says.
Eventually, momentum built and Light The City played over 200 shows on an East Coast tour and won several "battle of the bands" competitions. "We grew a steady following of fans in and around the New England area," Joshua recalls. This momentum led to the band's biggest show, before an audience of over 1500. Towards the end of their high-school lives, the group eventually grew apart. "But I couldn't stop," Joshua says with a smile, "I kept writing and pursuing music."
Joshua's journey then took him from his small home town to the pulsating energy of Barcelona, Spain. "Half of our family is in Spain," he says, adding that his mother Gina reached out via Facebook to a distant cousin: Oliver
Orbea Schmitz, a well-known Producer/DJ in Ibiza noted for his tenure in venues like the world-renowned Club Amnesia. Gina secretly passed many of Joshua's songs to Oliver, who was so impressed that he immediately shared them with his production team known as The House Rejects (including Oliver, Micah Sherman and Alex del Amo) and a few key music industry friends.
Enter Sea to Sun Recordings' President, Sylvia Tosun, and Director
of A&R, Anton Bass. "We heard something unique in Joshua's music that made us want to hear more," Bass says. A whirlwind of activity resulted in Joshua signing to Sea To Sun Recordings and jetting off to Barcelona to record his full-length debut, mixed by the famed four time Grammy winner, Tom Lord-Alge.
Joshua's debut EP "Let it Go" is destined to blur the lines of pop, dance and rock. His music has been creating great industry buzz; advance tracks off the EP are currently in rotation on Sirius
XM's "20 on 20" and was played first in the US by the host of "The Morning Jolt," Larry Flick. Joshua's songs "When The World Ends," "One Day I'm Gonna Tell Her," and "Don't Let Me Down
" have been featured on ABC Family's "The Vineyard."
Joshua's star is just beginning to shine and he is primed to be a new force within the music industry. "If we truly give our best work and stay persistent, we can do anything we want and what I want is to make music for people to connect with."
