Weka Releases New Extended-Play Album, 'EP 1'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The artist known as Weka has released his latest EP album, titled, "EP1." The record is comprised of six original tracks for a total listening time of approximately 25 minutes. It is the most significant official release from Weka to date and represents the most round introduction to his music the listening world has heard thus far.

Weka's music is calming, soothing, and intellectual, masculine in tone and full of deep groove. His sonic flavor has roots in many different locales around the world, such as Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. His music has been compared to that of Module, Rhian Sheehan, Bonobo and Massive Attack, and his widely varied sound indeed contains attributes of all four. In addition to these, Weka cites as main artistic influences the work of the Chemical Brothers, Nightmares on Wax, Lemon Jelly, Thievery Corporation, Air, Zero 7, Groove Armada, and Unkle.

While his music makes first and foremost for very relaxing and intriguing listening, it is also an obvious and well-communicated labor of love. His sounds seem to transmit humanitarianism in their styles alone, without the aid of what samples in English have been applied. Speaking of the themes of his new EP, Weka speaks candidly and directly about each track in particular.

"'Seeking Silence' and 'Interlude' both share a message of humanity," he writes. "We need to unite as one species in order to survive. Selfishness, violence and greed have taken over, and I'm trying to advocate a return to the principles of peace, love and inclusiveness."

His artistic principles in terms of orchestration and composition are likewise uncompromised. He discusses his use of musical styles from various nations to demonstrate how different cultures can cooperate to make something beautiful.

"'Frequency Shift' and 'Distant Feeling,'" Weka writes, "both draw from various world music elements… I guess it tries to be an example of the validity of all forms of music, and how seemingly disparate elements can be brought together in harmony."

Weka is also a member of the award winning group The Interrupt Collective, who specialize in creating interactive audio-visual installations that have been and are exhibited around the world.

"EP 1" by Weka is available online worldwide.

The EP "EP 1" is distributed globally by MondoTunes (www.MondoTunes.com) and is available at iTunes or www.top40-charts.com for convenient purchase and download.
