New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ d.baron media relations) PRMD/Island Records superstar DJ/producer
Avicii enters the Billboard 200 albums chart at #5-bullet with his debut album, TRUE, on first week sales of 50,000 copies. This marks the highest studio album debut in Soundscan history for a solo EDM artist. TRUE, which topped album charts in 70 countries, contains Avicii's phenomenal single "
Wake Me Up" (featuring Aloe Blacc), the #1 iTunes smash in 70-plus countries. "
Wake Me Up" moves to #4-bullet on the Billboard Hot 100 in its 13th week out, dominating radio on multiple charts all summer, with an audience north of 100 million and rising.
"To be a part of this early success here in the US with
Avicii is just incredible for all of us here at Island Records," said Steve Bartels, President & COO, Island Def Jam
Music Group. "David Massey and I, along with the whole team, are proud to join forces with
Avicii and the PRMD label as he moves into the next exciting phase of his ground-breaking career."
"There's nothing more fulfilling, nothing more exciting than becoming one with the music as it pours out of the speakers and you lift your head to the sky and sing along," wrote influential media pundit Bob Lefsetz of Avicii. "There's no scale for excellence. There's no framework to judge. When someone is inventing something new, stretching both themselves and the audience, the usual suspects are unprepared. But the listener is always ready." TRUE encompasses tracks featuring Mike Einziger of Incubus, Dan Tyminsky (of the O Brother, Where Art Thou soundtrack), Swedish pop singer Linnea Henriksson, big-voiced West Coast vocalist Audra Mae, and singer-songwriter
Salem Al Fakir, the voice on Avicii's international 2012 hit "Silhouettes."
Legends including Chic mastermind Nile Rodgers (who produced Daft Punk's ubiquitous 2013 single "
Get Lucky") and country-pop star and songwriter Mac Davis (author of
Elvis Presley hits "In the Ghetto" and "A
Little Less Conversation") also contributed their collaborative talents. The New York Times rave review of TRUE concluded by applauding
Avicii as "an artist carrying today - and tomorrow - on his shoulders."
