New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Green Light Go) The You Be My
Heart compilation supporting 826
National will be released on December 9, features a who's who in the indie rock scene with artists such as Bowerbirds, The Cloud Room, Maps & Atlases, Horse Feathers, Marissa Nadler and Mark Kozelek participating.
"Silver filaments of jangly guitar notes weave in and out of the brash percussion, and singer J Stuart's
David Bowie-meets-Lou Reed vocal styling hovers above everything, lending the whole affair an autobiographical feel..." - Joshua Pickard - Beats Per Minute
The compilation is an extended love affair with the nonprofit, 826 National, which is dedicated to offering "a variety of inventive programs that provide under-resourced students, ages 6-18, with opportunities to explore their creativity and improve their writing skills." San Francisco songwriter Devon Reed, who volunteers with 826, initiated the project and wrote all the songs, which were then presented to the bands involved. Each band then selected a song that called to them and in turn gave it their own unique twist. The result is a compilation of participants supporting the nonprofit's aim.

Devon Reed first became involved as a volunteer and organizer for 826 Valencia in San Francisco in 2011. He had worked with several nonprofits in the area, including Habitat for Humanity, GRID Alternatives and Food not Bombs, when he finally discovered 826 and quickly considered it home. He says, "The organization, with its focus on children and writing, was a perfect fit with my own interests and from my first experiences there, I could tell that my time and energy was very much needed." In 2012, after volunteering there for a year, he was asked to serve as a volunteer coordinator for their Sunday tutoring program.
Reed produced his first album six years ago, a soundtrack to his feature length film musical The Bigtop, which included performances of songs written by him by such artists as Matthew Sweet, Doug Martsch (Built to Spill), The Clientele, Lisa Germano and
Damien Jurado.

Praise for Devon Reed
"These are fully developed, listenable songs, all written by Reed but performed by an assortment of indie rock names and newcomers." - Pitchfork
"Devon [Reed] claims to have approached musicians based on their talents, and how those fit his songs' style. And he's got good taste, too (the soundtrack includes Built To
Spiller Doug Martsch, the Clientele, Lisa Germano, etc.). But it's the [Matthew] Sweet track we're on - and its jangle 'n' electric definitely suits his strengths, and it's definitely a Sweet track." - Stereogum
"[m]y favorite soundtrack was Songs from the Bigtop. The album features 13 songs penned by the film's director, Devon Reed, and performed by a variety of indie rock icons (including Matthew Sweet, Built to Spill's Doug Martsch, and Lisa Germano)." - Largehearted Boy
