Ryan's Smashing Life Premieres Kashka's "Bloodlines" Single
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Green Light Go) KASHKA's single, "Bloodlines", off her sophomore album, Bound, (due out Jan. 14, 2014) gives an eerie visual with the swirling sounds of sirens, strings and thick synths. It takes listeners on her nostalgic trip with lyrics that trods through family lineage.

"The string elements and electronic effects are ghostly. Burns here has crafted a song that is both mesmerizing and intensely personal. Somehow this one also still manages to feel big, communal and eternal.. Bloodlines is gorgeous!" -- Ryan Spaulding- Ryan's Smashing Life

After a rough start on what would become Bound, KASHKA's, Kat Burns and producer, Leon Taheny (Rituals, Dusted), took almost six months off from working on the record. Burns took off to Poland to retrace her heritage and be mentored by a Polish folk orchestra. Upon returning, Burns (Forest City Lovers) continued to explore themes of landscapes, family history, and fractured relationships. An array of talented Toronto-based musicians, including members of Bruce Peninsula, Bernice, the Bicycles, Ohbijou and Tokyo Police Club contributed to the album.

The creative process started in Parkdale, a west-end neighbourhood of Toronto. Burns had recently dissolved her former band (Forest City Lovers) and was determined to rise out of the ashes. Without a clear direction to take, she spent some time exploring new sounds and songwriting styles, which led to a collaboration with longtime friend and producer James Bunton (Light Fires, Ohbijou, Evening Hymns). She found her new direction, and KASHKA was born.

Praise for KASHKA:

"...confident & compelling, but yet still understated, she seems perfectly at home over a background of sounds that seem to blend modern folk elements with retro electronic sounds. It's great stuff..." - Herohill

"'Never Had It' is soaring synthpop perfection." - Silent Shout

"Her music starts as pop electronic and transitions into an almost gothy sound and then takes us straight to trance, and then on to a more acoustic sound." - Music Lives

"KASHKA's BOUND, in short, is an all-caps JOYOUS EXPERIENCE." - Gray Owl Point

"She calls it folkpoptronica, but the music Kat Burns has been making as KASHKA lately is 100% pure pop not from concentrate." - Quick Before It Melts
