Watch: CBS Sunday Morning Looks Inside The Music Of "Inside Llewyn Davis"; BBC Names It Year's Best Film!
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Nonesuch Records) Inside Llewyn Davis , the new film from Joel and Ethan Coen, which is now playing in select cities across the United States, was the subject of a feature segment on CBS Sunday Morning yesterday. In the piece, CBS correspondent Anthony Mason spoke with the Coen brothers about the film, which follows a week in the life of a young folk singer in Greenwich Village in 1961, and joined T Bone Burnett , who, with the Coens, produced the soundtrack to the film, for a tour of the Village and a discussion of the music made there 50 years ago. You can watch the piece here:

Inside Llewyn Davis has now appeared on more than 175 Top 10 lists, with critics across the US and Europe calling it the Best Picture of the Year, not least the BBC , which recently placed it at No. 1 on its list of the Ten Best Films of 2013.

"Enhanced by a golden soundtrack of folk song ballads, many sung with quiet feeling by Oscar Isaac, so magnetic in the title role," writes film critic Lisa Schwarzbaum for the BBC, "the Coen brothers display a maturity of perception - about aspiration and the randomness of the universe, about scene-setting and narrative pace - that silences old charges about the siblings' coldness of heart. Surprise! Inside Llewyn Davis is a tender place." Read more at bbc.com .

Speaking of that "golden soundtrack," the Los Angeles Times says "It's the music that moves Inside Llewyn Davis ," as the headline of a new article in the paper reads. "Like most Coen brothers films, the songs play an integral part of the story. But T Bone Burnett's work levitates Inside Llewyn Davis ."

The Los Angeles Times pop music critic Randall Roberts spoke with Joel and Ethan Coen about their expert use of music in their films and, more specifically, working with Burnett. He also spoke with Burnett about, in Roberts' words, how "he's come to revel in the details that the filmmakers were able to convey through a combination of lyric and story."

"One of the most beguiling folk records of the year has the bonus of ferrying along a Joel and Ethan Coen plot line," writes Roberts. "The songs within the brothers' new Inside Llewyn Davis move from balladry to blues to ancient British folk, adding an extra layer of lyricism and revealing a portal to another storytelling realm.

"The selections and performances highlight a moment when a perfectly realized stanza sung honestly in a smoky cafe could produce an audible gasp, reverberate throughout New York's Greenwich Village and, with luck or if your name were Bob Dylan, American culture."
