(www.shoestringentertainment.com/ www.bennycruz.com) - Detroit's very own 'Ambassador of Latin Music' Benny Cruz received the '2004 Hispanic Lifetime Achievement Award' from the Michigan Hispanic Caucus during an evening reception at the Lansing Holiday Inn South; part of the day-long 6th Annual Michigan Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration festivities at the
State Capitol, Wednesday,
September 15th, 2004.
The event was co-sponsored by: Michigan Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth,
State Senator Valde Garcia and the Michigan Hispanic Caucus Committee. The 'Hispanic Lifetime Achievement Award' is given to an individual that has selflessly devoted their life towards promoting the Hispanic culture, advocating for inclusion, and bettering their community.
Benny Cruz, emerging multi-talented award winning Latino singer, songwriter, arranger and producer has been rapidly gaining global recognition, having experienced tremendous regional success in the northern and Midwestern United States as a solo artist and as the director of his award winning band 'Benny Cruz y la Buena Vida'. Benny has earned praise as the 'Ambassador of Latin Music' from fans and peers alike. His ability to uniquely blend many forms of music provides for a breathtaking, awe-inspiring, highly charged live performance and for pure listening enjoyment.
As a well-known musician, educator and community activist, Benny has spent many years teaching youth about music and life's challenges. Just the mention of his name evokes positive thoughts of Latino/Hispanic pride and heritage. His tireless dedication to the presentation of Latin music to the general public, in an effort to maintain and enhance the knowledge of audiences the world over, has been admirable. His various Latin Music Workshops incorporate styles and elements of music that are found in many of his songs. These workshops are available to everyone and have been provided to K-12 schools and presented prior to live performances.
