Francis Bowie Releases New Single "Number One"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Francis Bowie official website) With the release of his new single "Number One" today, Francis Bowie introduces America to the socially-aware, androgynous electro pop that first made him a hit in his native Denmark.
In "Number One," Bowie pleads for sexual freedom instead of forgiveness from a girlfriend angered by his dalliances. " 'Number One' is the story of a basically good guy feeling trapped by the conventions of relationships," Bowie explained. "He's really asking for honesty. And wouldn't that solve a lot of problems if we can just tell the truth to one another?"

"Number One" is the first single leading up to Bowie's June 11 EP, "Sex, Drugs and Thrilling" on dGenerate Records.

For Bowie, Tuesday marks more than another single release; it's the start of the Pop Renaissance, the rebirth of pop as we know it, where art meets smart. "Just as many politicians have forgotten the meaning of governing, many in the music industry have forgotten the meaning of the music," Bowie explained. "A lot of big labels have paid too much attention to the numbers instead of the music, looking for the lowest common denominator. So the idea behind the Pop Renaissance is to create smart pop, music that speaks to the rest of us, not just the 12-year-old market."

Bowie's exhilarating music, gender-bending sexuality and social commentaries made a splash in his native Denmark. And after hearing his eponymously titled EP in 2011, critics worldwide raved enthusiastically. "Francis Bowie is like a powerful drug - you can't help but get sucked in after you're exposed to him once," raved EVOR reviewer Rory Richardson. Meanwhile, IndieMusicDigest hailed him as an "amazing creative genius." And Blushing Panda proclaimed, "It's like watching a male version of Lady Gaga at times. The sound is 80′s a bit like if Har Mar Superstar (just starting out) released music nowadays but with a modern twist."

On top of "Number One," this June's EP features the singles "Sunny Day" and "Sex, Drugs and Thrilling." All were produced in Los Angeles by industry luminaries Jeff Blue (Linkin Park, Macy Gray, Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Hoobastank) and Justin Trugman (Backstreet Boys, Eminem, JoJo and Mickey Avalon).

Francis Bowie, whose name pays homage to the brilliant painter Francis Bacon and rock icon David Bowie, is a musical and visual artist. Rooted in rock and roll, Bowie led indie rock band A Love You before going solo in 2010. He's renowned in Denmark and beyond for his visual art and has been the owner of two art galleries.

Bowie kicked off 2014 by joining KounterKulture's roster, working closely with manager Michael Jones.

"Number One" is available for download from all major online retailers.
