Silver Lake & Pasadena Residencies Album Available Now On iTunes and Amazon
"'Indiscretions' feels like quite a find. Promis is a writer with much to say, and new and interesting. It's the sort of record that the dedicated listener can really get their teeth into and I'm happy to recommend it - unreservedly." Leicester Bangs Blog
For Immediate Release, Los Angeles, CA: Los Angeles-based singer songwriter Promis is celebrating the release of his seventh album, Indiscretions, a collection of 16 unabashedly emotive songs bursting with his keen worldly take on the universal truths of life and love. The Chilean-born artist incorporates a host of contemporary pop styles as well as old-world international influences within his songcraft. Promis composes song stories showcasing a sensitive, earnestly narrative vocal style that brings to life his beguiling lyrics and skewed sense of romanticism. Produced by Ian Matthews, Indiscretions, is a vibrant collection of originals and cover songs played by a stellar cast of musicians including Promis (piano), Matthews (guitar, Midi programming), Dave Champagne (flute, oboe), Albert
Romero (violin), Ariel Campos (percussion) and Mooskovich (mandolin). In addition to his prolific recorded work, Promis is a gifted performer with a passion for playing live, often singing solo and playing keyboard. He has a standing Monday night residency at Akbar in
Silver Lake (consistently voted one of L.A.'s best bars). Known as "Piano Bar at Akbar," it's an evening with Promis on piano performing original songs and carefully picked cover songs with an international flair and played to an energized crowd. Promis also performs on Sunday evenings at The Boulevard in Pasadena. Indiscretions is available now on iTunes and Amazon.
Born Jose Promis in his Chilean hometown of Vina del Mar, the budding songsmith's evolving love of music was shaped by exposure to a host of international popular styles. From Edith Piaf to Leonard Cohen,
Charles Aznavour to Neil Tennant, Jacques Brel to Noel Coward—all have influenced Promis and helped shape a signature sound that defies categorization. He's comfortable performing in a wide range of venues whether they cater to a rock, singer songwriter, jazz or cabaret crowd—clubs such as Hotel Café', Bordello, Taix, Wig Out, Vitello's, The Boulevard and the late and lamented Other Side to name a few in Los Angeles.
Promis exudes a global flair whether incorporating well-chosen cover songs in performance and on albums, or maintaining a profile outside of the U.S. by touring in faraway places such as France, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Chile. The two cover songs on Indiscretions, "From the Beginning" (Stavros Papastavrou) and "The Weeping Song" (Nick Cave) were recorded in Greece and Portugal respectively. Promis has so far filmed four videos of songs taken from Indiscretions on his travels around the U.S. and the world including Paris ("
Number One"), Berlin ("Indiscreet!"), New York ("50 Bucks From Me") and Tucson ("There's No Place Else I'd Rather Be") with more on the way.
