New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Missing Piece Group) On April 1st, New Brunswick's Matt Andersen released a new studio album, Weightless, via True North Records. The new album was released to great praise and saw a double LP release for Record Store Day.
Weightless received glowing four-star reviews from both
Maverick Magazine and DownBeat Magazine. Writing in Maverick, Paul Collins said "With his distinctive smoky soulful voice and mastery of the guitar Andersen is made for the blues... however with this album Andersen is making a compelling case for the quality of his offering in a much wider range of musicial styles."
In advance of its release, American Songwriter offered an exclusive stream of the album which you can listen to HERE. Nina Small of American Songwriter said Matt Andersen "showcases his talent for blending unique blues and roots influenced guitar playing with high quality songwriting."
Many fans' first introduction to Andersen's powerful performance style has been his moving cover of Bill Withers' "Aint No Sunshine" which has recently surpassed 1,000,000 views on YouTube.
Recently, Matt Andersen was tapped to perform at WXPN's 14th annual
NON-COMMvention that takes place on May 14-16 in Philadelphia, PA. The convention is the leading national gathering for non-commercial radio programmers in the United States. Andersen will share the stage with The Hold Steady, The Afghan Whigs, Shovels & Rope,
Nicole Atkins, Hurray For The
Riff Raff and many more.
The 12 tracks that comprise Weightless showcase Andersen's unparalleled dexterity on the guitar along with some of his best songwriting to date. The album was produced by Grammy-winning producer and musician Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, Deer Tick), who enlisted Neko Case's right hand man and guitarist Paul
Rigby to compliment Andersen.
Matt Andersen is now on tour and has announced additional dates this June in support of
Jonny Lang and
Buddy Guy.
