New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Richard James Simpson dropped new video for 'Spirit Plus', off debut album Sweet Birds Of Youth. The song title "Spirit Plus,"is a nod to the late, great auteurs Stanley Kubrick and David Bowie. Simpson has always wished to fuse Kubrick's and Bowie's dramatic flare into his own music.

In this song, he explores the theme of "The Great Spirit," a universal and mystical concept present in every civilization around the globe. His fascinating interpretation of "The Great Spirit" invites us - or rather, beckons us - to understand "The Great Spirit" not just as a supreme God, but as a universal, spiritual force within everyone.

The alluring guitar work on this piece only helps to intensify the dreamy and reflective mood of the song, which brings to mind such artists as Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. This enlightening and hypnotic song declares the answer is within.

Featuring such notable musicians as Joey Burns, co-founder of Calexico, Dustin Boyer (John Cale) and Theo Welch (Barry White), Sweet Birds Of Youth is the debut solo album of Richard James Simpson, formerly lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Teardrain (which included bass player and co-songwriter Jill Emery of such bands as Hole, Mazzy Star and Super Heroines); and bassist for Invisible Chains (featuring musician Carla Bozulich).

Sweet Birds of Youth has been described as a collection of songs that range from sexy and gritty to dreamy and reflective. A very rich and complex sonic palette unfolds in the 18 songs, with an experimental and soulful sound reminiscent of such artist as Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Pixies, PJ Harvey, Soundgarden and many others.
Simpson proves to be capable of re-metabolizing such a wide range of influences into a consistent personal musical gestalt.
