New York, NY (Top40 Charts) There is timeless music that touches our soul and many times we begin our love affair with these songs through the artists that bring us their fantastic renditions. For example we all remember the impressive delivery of Blood, Sweat, and Tears on And When I Die. Another that you are sure to remember is Elis Comin as performed by Three Dog Night. But if we look deeper we learn that both of these super groups plus another, The Fifth Dimension, and most certainly the fabulous Barbra Streisand were all bringing us the music of a songwriter named Laura Nyro. Sadly, Laura lost her battle with ovarian cancer some years back. However, today Laura is far from being forgotten as the multi-talented group, The Christine Spero Group, performs their live tribute that pays incredible homage to Ms. Nyro. So much so that Steve Katz (Blood, Sweat, & Tears) shared the following, I knew that Christine was doing a tribute to my old friend Laura Nyro, but I wasnt prepared for just how amazing Christines performance turned out to be.
Obviously we all know that there is a huge difference between the corner bar band covering someones music or on the other hand witnessing a capable ensemble of established artists deliver a disciplined performance to a well deserving contemporary, a huge difference. In fact Lauras brother, Jan Nigro, remarked about The Christine Spero Group, Christine is a very talented woman, and I'm so glad she did such a beautiful job with my sister's music." Interestingly enough Christine would be the first to tell you that it is everyone in the group that lends their all to this body of work. To help prove the point without being there you will find a list of song titles below that the group included on their latest release. Take a look at the familiar titles and then if you want to hear them just click on the link further below. You will be pleasantly surprised, as was both Steve Katz and Jan Nigro. As an added post script - in the near future Christine will be appearing along the folk trail either delivering a solo performance or as duo with Elliot in more intimate settings . Enjoy!
