SINGAPORE (MTV Asia) - The night belonged to
Avril Lavigne but anyone who was at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on January 24 isn't going to forget the 2003 MTV Asia Awards in a hurry either.
There was electricity in the air as thousands of young fans in their party garb screamed when the stars arrived at the red carpet. Once inside, the spectators were greeted with a funky and awesome set. The mix of international and Asian superstars makes the MTV Asia Awards special -- unlike any other awards show in Asia or around the world.
CoCo Lee and Shaggy made a fine pair of hosts. And like last year's inaugural show, the live performances were the highlights of the evening. Avril Lavigne's super-charged performance of "Sk8er Boi," the four divas medley - featuring Singapore's He Yao Sun, Indonesia's Krisdayanti, Thailand's Palmy and Malaysia's Siti Nurhaliza - Matchbox Twenty, Missy Elliott, Robbie Williams, Stefanie Sun, j.t.L, Jay Chou, and the finale that featured Blue performing with Philippines' Kyla and Malaysia's Ella, worked the crowd into a frenzy.
When the dust settled, Avril emerged the biggest winner of the night with three awards - Favourite Female Artist, Favourite Breakthrough Artist and The Style Award. Linkin Park's Joe Hahn and Chester Bennington took home two awards - Favourite Rock Act and Favourite Video.
