New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Avril Lavigne Official Website) Avril Lavigne will return to Australia at the end of March to promote her new album Goodbye Lullaby, which will be released this Friday March 4, 2011.
The debut single from the Goodbye Lullaby, "What the Hell", has been well received by the Australian music community and fans alike with the upbeat and cheeky track showing Avril's return to form as a pop-punk princess. The single is currently No 6 on the ARIA singles chart and is certified platinum.
Lavigne worked with longtime collaborators on Goodbye Lullaby, Deryck Whibley, Evan Taubenfeld and Butch Walker, as well as songwriter/producer Max Martin (Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk) but remained extremely active in the creative process. All the tracks featured on the album were either written or co-written by Lavigne herself who also lends her production skills to two of the tracks, "4 Real" and "Goodbye.
Written at various stages over the past few years, Goodbye Lullaby showcases a more organic and raw sound for the demure 26-year-old Lavigne. The album is filled with appealingly, relatable, heartfelt songs that convey a variety of emotions and reflect a bittersweet mood not generally associated with Lavigne's best-known tunes.
Among its upbeat tracks are "What the Hell," and "Stop Standing There," fueled by an early-'50s girl-group feel. The album runs the gamut of emotions: Lavigne expresses her gratitude for special people in her life in the rocker "Smile," explores the dynamics of a relationship in "Push," shows her vulnerable side in "Wish You Were Here," and finds the strength to close one chapter of her life and move on to the next in the title track "Goodbye."
"I pushed myself and didn't hold back... I allowed myself to be vulnerable.," Lavigne said.
Avril Lavigne has made an indelible mark on the music community, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide, earning eight Grammy nominations and seven Canadian Juno Awards She first burst onto the music scene in 2002 with the critically acclaimed Let Go, featuring the smash singles "Sk8r Boi" and "Complicated."
