New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Heroes And Legends) Music superstar Chaka Khan, will be presented with the Icon Award at the 24th Annual Tribute to Heroes and Legends,
September 22, 2013. The charitable occasion, which raises funds for the Heroes And
Legends Scholarship Foundation will also honor Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Siedah Garrett, renowned music manager and brand architect Troy Carter and 1950s doo-wop group Terry Johnson & The Flamingos.
Appropriately themed "Forever Legends," the 24th Annual Heroes and
Legends Awards will be held on Sunday,
September 22nd, 2013 at The Beverly Hills Hotel. The ever- vibrant JoMarie Payton will grace the stage as the Mistress of Ceremonies, and will be joined by presenters Claudette Robinson, Miller London, Marla Gibbs and vivacious Mary Wilson,
Ray Parker, Jr. and Billy Vera.

Amy Grant , just to name a few. She is the co-writer of Michael Jackson's motivational anthem, Man in the Mirror from his 1987 album, "Bad." Ms. Garrett has been nominated for 2 Oscars: one for co-writing "Love You, I Do," sung by
Jennifer Hudson in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls, and the second for "Real In Rio" from the 2011 film, Rio. This year she finds her as a guest artist on

I Only Have Eyes For You" features a prominent reverb effect, creating a dreamy ambience, peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B charts. Terry arranged the music, vocals and sang tenor on all of the songs on the albums "Flamingo Serenade", "Requestfully Yours" and "Flamingo Favorites." After The Flamingos, Terry formed his own group called Terry Johnson & The
Modern Flamingos. When Nate
Nelson left The Flamingos, he joined forces with Terry and they recorded under the name THE STARGLOWS. They co-wrote and sang "Let's Be Lovers" on the Atco Label, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. Signing with Motown Records as an artist and producing partner with Smokey Robinson, Johnson recorded several records on the Gordy Label. He wrote, arranged, and produced songs for
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, Edwin Starr, The Spinners,
Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers, Jimmy Ruffin, Mickey Denton, Blinky and other Motown artists.
The 2013 HAL Awards' star-studded event honors a select group of individuals who have brought honor and dignity to the arts. An additional highlight will be the awarding of scholarships to deserving students of the arts from the Southern California area. The HAL Awards are the brainchild of famed songwriter and Motown Alumna, Janie Bradford. Bradford has written such classic hits as Marvin Gaye's "Too Busy Thinkin' About My Baby," Barrett Strong's "Money. That's What I Want" and countless others. " Our goal is to help talented young people in the community realize their lofty -but- attainable dreams of shaping careers for themselves in one of the many performing arts," explains Bradford. "We do this by providing much needed scholarship funds. Each year our scholarship honorees are selected from a diverse group of candidates who have earned a consistent grade point average of 2.0 or better and who exhibit an extraordinary amount of talent, drive and determination."
