New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Nicki Minaj has come full circle as she's finally landed her first ever number one single on the US' Billboard Hot 100 chart, 10 years after releasing her debut. The Super Bass singer has scored this week's chart-topper alongside
Doja Cat with their hit remix of Say So, which jumped from sixth to first place.
It also marks newcomer Doja Cat's first number one on the chart, so celebrations all round. Nicki, 37, celebrated the news with an emotional post on Instagram, which said: 'Can't thank you guys enough for going so hard this past week to help us make history. I saw it all.'
Nicki Minaj now holds the record for longest wait for a No. 1 according to Billboard, with "
Say So" being her 109th song on the charts, crushing Justin Bieber's 47-song wait.
Minaj has been vocal about her frustration with the charts, and haters have been vocal about using it against her.
Even the queen of No. 1s, Mariah Carey, cited the charts to throw shade at
Nicki Minaj in 2013. (But since we do not pit queens against one another, and since these two icons, along with Doja Cat, are the only women to have topped the Hot 100 this year... we won't rehash that drama.)
"
Say So" had a long, winding journey from Doja Cat's album Hot Pink, to TikTok viral dance trend (which is how it got its '70s music video), and now all the way to Billboard No. 1.
Last week, Doja revealed how she would celebrate her feat with her fans. "If say so hits #1 I'll show you guys my boobs really hard," she tweeted. While we are all unsure if this will actually happen, congratulations are definitely in order for the Hot Pink artist.
