LOS ANGELES (World Music Awards Website) - For the first time ever the WORLD MUSIC AWARDS 2005 will take place at the prestigious Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on Wednesday, August 31 and be broadcast, Tuesday, September 13 (9:00 - 11:00 p.m.) on the ABC Television Network. Awards will be presented by world-famous hosts to world-famous artists who have achieved worldwide success based on record sales. The WORLD MUSIC AWARDS are the most televised of all music awards shows The show airs on network television in 160 countries around the world reaching more than a billion viewers worldwide. Established in 1989 the WORLD MUSIC AWARDS show is the only awards show that honors the BEST SELLING recording artists from every major country around the world. The Awards are given out for record sales ONLY. Sales figures which determine winners are supplied and certified by the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonography Industry) with no voting audience and no voting jury involved. It is the actual record buying public who choose the winners by buying the records. The 2004 World Music Awards emanating from Las Vegas for its first time in the United States, increased by 17% among Total Viewers (6.3 million vs. 5.4 million and by 24% among Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 2.1/6), over the previous telecast of the show. The year the WORLD MUSIC AWARDS benefits the Monaco Aide and Presence Foundation by constructing orphanages, schools and hospitals for underprivileged children in the third world. To date there are 16 active World Music Awards centers around the world and plans for additional locations. This year the World Music Awards are building a clinic and orphanage in Cameroon.
