ASCAP Country Music Songwriter Dave Berg To Write And Record With Inner City Kids In St. Louis
NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ ASCAP Foundation) ASCAP Country Music Songwriter Dave Berg To Write And Record With Inner City Kids In St. LouisNew York, NY, October 18, 2011: ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and America SCORES are pleased to announce that Country music songwriter Dave Berg will participate in the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES, a mentorship program that provides a platform for songwriters to engage and inspire elementary and middle school students in under-resourced neighborhoods.

Berg will lead songwriting classes with America SCORES students at Jefferson Elementary (4315 Cardwell Drive, St. Louis, MO 63121) on October 24 and 25, 2011. Berg and the students will then go to Shock City Studios (2200 Gravois Ave., Suite 100, St. Louis, MO 63104) on October 26, 2011 to record the song. The finished song will be included on a special compilation CD that ASCAP produces and distributes to each of the schools involved with the program, as well as to music industry influencers.

Commenting on the program, Berg said: "I'm really looking forward to the ASCAP @ America SCORES program in St. Louis. I feel honored to be a part of it. Music is such a powerful thing and I truly believe it can be a life changer. It was for me. I can't imagine how tough it is for some of these kids, and this program gives them a voice that can provide a spark for their spirit that will inspire far beyond the music itself."

Dave Berg's songwriting credits include the #1 country hits "Somebody" by Reba McEntire, "If You're Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)" and "These Are My People" by Rodney Atkins, and "Moments" by Emerson Drive. He has received numerous awards and honors, including being named ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year in 2008, Billboard and NSAI Songwriter of the Year in 2007 and writing the 2007 Billboard and ASCAP Country Song of the Year, "If You're Goin' Through Hell" recorded by Rodney Atkins. Another #1 song, "Stupid Boy" (recorded by Keith Urban) earned Urban a Grammy Award for Country Male Performance of the Year. In addition to writing for others, Berg has recorded and released three solo albums, "Three Perfect Days" (1999), "Surface" (2003) and "Not Quite So Alone" (2011). Listen to Berg discuss his latest recording in an ASCAP Audio Portrait at www.ascap.com/network/audioportraits/Dave_Berg.

This year's program also features hip-hop artist Psalm One (Rhymesayers Entertainment) in nine cities, Latin singer/songwriter RokeMD in Dallas, TX, Grammy-nominated songwriter, producer and recording artist Lonny Bereal in Los Angeles, CA, plus other songwriters to be announced. Established in 2006, the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES has brought more than 30 songwriters to 12 cities across the country. The ASCAP Foundation, a public charity dedicated to supporting music education and talent development, funds the program. For more information, please visit: www.ascap.com/Songwriter-Residency.
