Caroline Shaw's Album "Orange," Performed By Attacca Quartet, Due On Orange Vinyl, May 8
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw's Orange, which earned Attacca Quartet a Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, will be available on vinyl for the first time on May 8 via New Amsterdam and Nonesuch Records. The two-LP vinyl edition includes the album on double 180-gram orange vinyl, pressed at Record Industry in the Netherlands, along with a printed excerpt from the score, and is available to pre-order now in the Top40-Charts.com Store and Bandcamp.

Orange, which features six of Shaw's pieces for string quartet, is the first full-length album to exclusively feature works by Shaw and was met with great critical acclaim upon its CD and digital release last year. "Completely gorgeous in so many ways," exclaims BBC Radio 3. "It hits you everywhere, all at once." "A love letter to the string quartet," says NPR. "[W]hen you hear all the imaginative sounds on Orange, you know you're listening to the voice of a strong composer." "[T]he pieces on Orange shoot off in thrilling and unpredictable directions," says Pitchfork. "The music of Orange exudes joy and a sense of wildness."

Attacca Quartet will perform selections from Orange as part of a Caroline Shaw Composers Portraits concert at Columbia University's Miller Theatre in New York City tonight; Sō Percussion and Shaw herself perform on the program as well. Later this season, Shaw and Attacca will be joined by Gabriel Kahane for a concert at the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, on May 3. Shaw will perform with Roomful of Teeth, the vocal ensemble of which she is a part, for Lincoln Center's American Songbook series next week and will take part in the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville at the end of March.
