CRESTED BUTTE, CO. (Top 40 Charts/ Crested Butte Music Festival) - The Crested Butte Music Festival, a summer festival of classical music, opera, and dance, has announced its 2008 season, Discover the Roots of Paradise, which will run from July 4th to July 31st. Located in the Victorian town of Crested Butte, known as the wild flower capital of Colorado, the music festival features innovative programming in natural and intimate settings that include the expansive outdoors and in-home soirees.

"Our theme for this summer's festival draws us back to an earlier Crested Butte, around 1900, when many residents of this mining town had close ties to countries from Eastern Europe," said Alexander Scheirle, artistic and managing director. "Featuring composers including Dvorak, Smetana, Dohnanyi, and Janacek, we will explore the music that was familiar to our earlier settlers." The Crested Butte Music Festival welcomes, Charles Olivieri-Munroe, the internationally known conductor and music director of the North Czech Philharmonic, who will lead the symphony orchestra in a number of concerts as well as a staged production of Verdi's opera, Falstaff, featuring David Malis, Jon Truitt, and Keith Miller.

This year's festival highlights the balalaika and features Andrei Gorbachev, from Moscow, known as the world's best balalaika player. The festival also features internationally acclaimed violinist Gilles Apap in a home soiree concert program, "Gypsy in Paradise." And, as a tribute to the "Roots of Paradise," the festival will host a polka night with the Grammy award-winning band, Brave Combo. The Crested Butte Music Festival has secured two of country music's biggest names-Michael Martin Murphey, for the annual fundraiser; and Dean Dillon, for a solo home soiree.

"Our festival offers something for everyone," said Scheirle. "We have the Young Artist Program for opera students, intimate chamber music, bluegrass and country, and our weekly Saturday morning program for kids, Divine Family Concerts."

The Crested Butte Music Festival performances take place in a variety of venues. From the Center for the Arts to the Ein & Lynch Barn, from the Union Congregational Church to mountain homes, audiences are treated to 360 degrees of paradise.
