Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra To Play 'Movie Music' In January
Hong Kong (Top40 Charts/ HKSAR Government) The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, featuring National First Class conductor Fan Tao and local violin soloist Vivien Leung, will perform music from animations and movies next month.

Movie scores to be played at the concert include the "Black Cat Detective", "The Flower Child Lunlun and Lulu", "Lotus Lantern", "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf", "Spirited Away", "Howl's Moving Castle", "Swan Lake", "The Postman", "The Lady Caliph", "Cinema Paradiso", "The Mission", and Vivaldi's "Concerto for Four Violins in B Minor, Op.3, No.10, RV 580, 1st movement". Video excerpts will be broadcast during performances to give audiences an entertaining audio-visual experience.

Mr Fan Tao, the guest conductor, studied composition and conducting under renowned conductors and educators Huang Xiaotong and Philip Spurgeon. Fan was appointed Resident Conductor of the National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra under the auspices of the China Broadcasting Performing-Arts Troupe in 1995.

He was awarded a special prize at the International Sibelius Conductors' Competition, held in Helsinki in 2000. Orchestras and ensembles conducted by Fan include the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish National Broadcasting, the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet of China.

Violin soloist Vivien Leung obtained her Master's degree in Music in 2009 from Hong Kong Baptist University. She is currently studying at the School of Music, Boston University, United States.

During her early years of study, Leung was frequently among the top three in competitions in Hong Kong, as well as in national competitions in China. She is also a seasoned teacher, having taught violin since 2005. Some of her students have obtained ATCL diplomas with distinctions from Trinity College London.

More recently, Leung has served as a tutor on the Bridges Program in the United States, and as an instructor at Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School in Hong Kong.

The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organised orchestra that aims to promote musical enjoyment for the public - especially among Hong Kong's younger generation. The orchestra has previously invited a number of internationally famous conductors and soloists to perform as guests. By using the idioms of popular music and organising concert talks, it has also successfully introduced symphonic music and Chinese orchestral music to the public and brought about an awareness of China's indigenous culture.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "A Concert of Music from Popular Moving Pictures" by the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will take place at 8pm on January 14 (Friday), 2011 at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall; 8pm on January 15 (Saturday) at the Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre and 3pm on January 16 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall.
