Tenor Daniel Rodriguez Performs At Flushing House Gala
Flushing, NY (Top40 Charts / Flushing House) "America's Beloved Tenor" Daniel Rodriguez , will entertain guests at a fundraising gala on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at historic Flushing Town Hall, Flushing, NY. The gala is to support the mission of Flushing House, the not-for-profit retirement residence.

Daniel Rodriguez was all set to perform at the gala's previously scheduled date November 8, 2012. As Flushing House supporters already know, Super Storm Sandy and the unseasonably early Nor'easter, combined and caused widespread power outages and gas shortages which convinced Flushing House to postpone their fundraiser.

We're happy to announce our gala is now rescheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2013, 6:00 to 11:00 p.m., at historic Flushing Town Hall. And, we're very proud to report that World Famous Tenor Daniel Rodriguez will perform for us. When he heard our event had been canceled, he asked to be invited when it was rescheduled, because he wants to use his powerful voice to help support the mission of Flushing House.

Space is limited, but there's still room for additional guests at our April 25th gala! If you would like to attend, please include your name, attach a $75 check (per person) payable to United Adult Ministries, and reply to: Robert Salant , director of community relations, Flushing House, 38-20 Bowne Street, Flushing, NY 11354. Check must be received by the April 15, 2013 cut off date. You may call Mr. Salant at (347) 532-3025 with any questions or email [email protected].

The annual fundraising gala benefits a special endowment fund, allowing Flushing House to remain affordable for many of the older adults who live there. In our 38-year history, we never had a resident evicted due to an inability to pay. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, tax exempt and registered charity, all gifts are fully tax-deductible.

Daniel was the unheralded "Singing Policeman" in his sideline as one of the NYPD's "National Anthem" singers. He was called on to sing September 23, 2001, at the "Prayer for America" concert at Yankee Stadium honoring victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Tenor Placido Domingo, who was also on the bill, heard him and invited Daniel to attend his Domingo/Vilar Young Artists Institute in Washington, DC.

The rest is like a dream come true. Daniel left the NYPD in 2004, and today enjoys his second career as the world-famous tenor, recording numerous albums and appearing as a lead tenor with several major operas. Nowadays, he maintains a very busy schedule, performing year-round at many domestic and international concert halls.

Despite his world fame, Daniel still performs around New York, supporting favorite charities, giving his time, talent and notoriety to assist retirement communities like Flushing House, churches and various not-for-profit organizations. For all his good works, Flushing House and parent United Adult Ministries are proud to honor Daniel with their Humanitarian Award.

Program Notes:
Three honorees will receive The Rose Kryzak Senior Leadership Award: Estela Divino of Mineola, social services director, Regal Heights Rehabilitation and Health Care Center; Carol O'Dette of Bellerose, social services director, Ozanam Hall of Queens Nursing Home; Mary Sheehan-Lohne of West Hempstead, social services director, Cliffside Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Two honorees will receive The Older Adult Ministry Award: Thelma Gerold of Bellmore, Deacon, Bellmore Presbyterian Church; Lisa Sisenwein of Flushing, Clerk of Session and Secretary, First Presbyterian Church of Whitestone.

Flushing House opened its doors in 1975 and is the area's premier, not-for-profit retirement community, housing about 300 older adults. Our 12-story building is the largest not-for-profit center for Independent Living in all of New York State.

We're proud to have been the long-time home (13 years) of the late Rose Kryzak , the famous senior activist best known for her successful campaign to pass New York's EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) Plan in 1987. Each year since her passing, and with her family's blessings, we have honored other senior activists with The Rose Kryzak Senior Leadership Award, during our annual fundraising gala.

The Flushing House mission: "To provide a safe, enjoyable, and affordable retirement experience for our residents."
