New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jesse Keith Whitley honors his father and country music sensation Keith Whitley by releasing Try to Change My Ways on May 9, the 31st anniversary of his passing. Exclusively premiering on Billboard today, Jesse Keith talks about why this particular track made him think of his father, while providing fans with an exclusive of the audio.
"...anytime I cross that state line into Kentucky, I feel my dad all around," Jesse Keith tells Billboard. "So it's an odd feeling sometimes driving through his hometown and through those hills knowing this is where my blood comes from."
Keith Whitley is admired and memorialized as a legend in country music. He is an influence to many of today's biggest stars, and Jesse Keith Whitley revealed in an interview with Digital Journal this past Saturday that his dad was also a big influence on his own music.
"Vocally, his music and my music are very different," JKW told Digital Journal. "But at the same time, they are very similar."
Country with nods to bluegrass, Try To Change My Ways tributes the neotraditional country sound Keith Whitley is known for, while also showcasing the undeniable, natural-born talent of Jesse Keith.
