New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Celebrating its fifth anniversary as one of the most dynamic, fastest growing companies in the industry, Big Deal
Music announces the formation of Big Deal
Music Group. The new umbrella will house the existing companies Big Deal
Music Publishing, Words &
Music Administration and Big Deal Media, a recently developed content division, as well as other related ventures yet to come.
With a roster ranging from iconic, headline rock acts like
My Morning Jacket and
Sleater-Kinney to jazz innovator Kamasi Washington and Grammy-winning songwriter Dan Wilson, Big Deal's five year run of remarkable growth and success include a Grammy Award for St. Vincent, multiple #1 singles across several formats, and the launch of a groundbreaking company initiative that creates a new business structure for some of today's top songwriters.
"The past five years have felt like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" said Big Deal
Music Group President and co-founder, Kenny MacPherson. "We've grown from a small independent publishing company with a handful of clients and a three person staff, to a top 10, self-administered publishing group with global reach. We felt it was time to organize our teams to better serve the needs of our songwriters and artists in this continually evolving music business climate."
That evolution has resulted in the company's recent alliances with peermusic, Mushroom Group, Because Music, Native Tongue and The
David Gresham Entertainment Group as global sub-publishers for the future. Additionally, the company launched Big Deal Media, for producing master recordings as well as digital content such as the acclaimed songwriting podcast AND THE WRITER IS… a venture with hit songwriters Ross Golan, Joe London and Mega House Music.
Big Deal
Music Publishing was founded in
September 2012, by former Chrysalis
Music colleagues Kenny MacPherson, Jamie Cerreta, Dave Ayers, along with Pete Robinson, and veteran artist manager Michael McDonald. Casey Robison signed on shortly thereafter to head the pop division.
2015 proved to be a pivotal year for Big Deal Music, continuing to grow the roster and staff, and launching Global
Music Initiatives, targeting opportunities for their talent by leveraging data and emerging technologies in the digital space. As 2015 drew to a close, Big Deal acquired Nashville-based administration company, Words & Music, transforming the company, according to MacPherson, into "a 21st Century music company -- adaptable, flexible, with a real guerrilla attitude." Early this year, the company heralded its expanding global objectives by opening an office in London headed by former BMG Co-Head of A&R/VP Creative, Kate Sweetsur.
