Spotify Singles invites artists to record two songs, opening up the opportunity for artists across genres to record a new take on one of their top songs, as well as a cover by their own favorite musician or group. The Ontario-crafted country outfit release a reinterpretation of their original track "
Good Together" alongside a cover of
Camila Cabello's "
Never Be The Same", adapted in true
James Barker Band fashion. The session, recorded at Revolution Studio in Toronto, is the first-ever Spotify Single to be recorded in Canada and released globally. Listen to the tracks here.
Lead singer,
James Barker, explains the band's connection to Cabello's 2017 hit song and the thought-process behind their version of the track: "We landed on this song because it is just a plain and simple HIT. The chorus melody just sounds like a smash. That melody would have been a hit no matter the genre or generation, it made our job pretty easy!"
To accompany the cover, the band worked with "World of Dance" duo Luka and Jenalyn to create a captivating video that captures the intimate lyrics of the song and are promoting on their socials. "We absolutely loved the cover of this song. The life and soul behind the cover allowed for a fun and intense creative process that was filled with tons of movement," added Luka and Jenalyn. "The song spoke volumes to us, which gave us the opportunity to feel and cement our interpretation."
