PITTSBURGH, PA. (Dollar Bank) - Over the past decade, country music stars with famous first names like Clint, Vince and
Wynonna have been featured at the Free Dollar Bank Jamboree at the Point. Now celebrating the Jamboree's 10th anniversary, Dollar Bank has tapped one of the biggest first names in all of entertainment to headline this year's daylong festivities.
Reba McEntire will headline this year's Jamboree scheduled for Sunday, August 29, 2004. A true entertainer in every sense of the word, Reba McEntire has done what few performers have: achieved tremendous success in a variety of media throughout her career. Growing up on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma and surrounded by a musically inclined family, country music was in McEntire's blood. She debuted on Billboard's country charts in 1976.
Her first top ten hit came four years later and they haven't stopped since. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, McEntire made her mark on country music, winning nearly 50 national and international awards, including CMA's Female Vocalist of the Year (1984, '85, '86, '87) and Entertainer of the Year (1987), Grammy Awards for Best Country Vocal Performance Female (1987) and Best Vocal Collaboration (with Linda Davis) in 1994.
In 1994, McEntire perhaps prematurely penned her autobiography, Reba: My Story. Some of her greatest accomplishments were yet to come. In 2001, McEntire proved that acting was in her blood, as well, when she took over the lead role in the Broadway production of Annie Get Your Gun, garnering praise from critics and fans alike. Later that year, she stepped from the Great White Way to the small screen with a weekly sitcom, Reba.
Earlier this year, she went back to her musical roots with her Room to Breathe CD and her first tour in four years.
In June 2004, she topped the list for most top ten solo hits by a female on Billboard's country charts, with 51, with "Somebody," the second top twenty smash from Room to Breathe.
In addition to Reba McEntire, the Free Dollar Bank Jamboree at the Point will also feature a performance by Carolyn Dawn Johnson, one of country's newest sensations. A native of Grant Prairie, Alberta, Canada, Johnson moved to Nashville in 1997, where she began singing demos for other writers and writing with some of them. After gigs singing studio vocals for Patty Loveless, Martina McBride and Kenny Rogers, among others, she earned a record deal in 1999, scoring a Number One hit with her composition "Single White Female."
In 2001, her debut CD Room With a View, earned her international kudos, including a Canadian Country Music Award and the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist. Her second CD, Dress Rehearsal, debuted earlier this year.
