The Martucci Swing Orchestra Presents 'Shout, Sister, Shout!' The Incredible Boswell Sisters
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Katie Martucci and her Swing Orchestra are celebrating the amazing Boswell Sisters - those three hip chicks from New Orleans who revolutionized singing with their rhythmic experimentation and innovations in harmony. Shout, Sister, Shout! The Incredible Boswell Sisters celebrates Martha, Conee and Helvetia Boswell on Friday, November 2 at 7 PM at Don't Tell Mama, 343 West 44th St., NYC.

Joining Martucci (who also plays guitar) are vocalists Vanisha Gould and Caroline Kuhn. The six-piece swing orchestra is Chris McCarthy, piano; Jared Engel, bass; Eladio Rojas, drums; Will Greene, alto/tenor sax; Gustavo D'Amico (clarinet/soprano sax) and Tree Palmedo, trumpet.

Shout, Sister, Shout! features prime Boswell hits, arranged by Martucci. "The Boswell Sisters were so creative and playful with their arrangements and interpretations," Martucci says, "it really feels like music that needs to be played live. The energy is incredible! " The innovations of Martha, Connee and Helvetia Boswell were a major influence on such vocal artists as Ella Fitzgerald and the Andrews Sisters.

The group's greatest success came during 1930-35. They were known for tight harmonies, scat singing, instrumental imitations, unexpected tempo changes, syncopation and inverted melodies. It's no wonder that many music critics and scholars today consider the Boswell Sisters as one of the greatest jazz vocal groups of all time. Shout, Sister, Shout! pays tribute to Boswell hits such as "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," "Heebie Jeebies," "Old Yazoo," "Shout, Sister, Shout," "42nd Street," "The Object of My Affection" and more.

Katie Martucci grew up singing, and playing fiddle and guitar. The daughter of a jazz pianist, she began performing with her father at a young age. By the first grade, she was writing her own songs and playing for tips. Her musical journeys led her to the Ashokan Western and Swing Week Fiddle and Dance Camp, vocal lessons with Laurel Masse of Manhattan Transfer, a brief stint of collegiate a cappella at Skidmore College and ultimately, to the New England Conservatory. She is now Brooklyn-based and pursuing her career as both a singer, instrumentalist and bandleader.
Shout, Sister, Shout! The Incredible Boswell Sisters, Friday, November 2 at 7:00 PM. There is a $10 cover and 2-drink minimum. Don't Tell Mama, 343West 46th St., New York, NY
