New York, NY (Top40 Charts) On Sunday night, well renowned Chinese pop star and celebrity, Zhang Jie, was presented with the International Artist Award at the 2014 American Music Awards that took place at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.
Zhang Jie had humble beginnings growing up in Chengdu, Sichuan, China and progressively garnered an audience in China and rose to fame by appearing on televised singing competitions throughout the country. Known for his English and Chinese music, he has covered popular songs from artists such as the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync and 98 Degrees as well as created original Chinese songs.
At age 32, he has already recorded over 10 hit albums since 2004 and throughout his career has released 8 top hit singles in China which have received an average of over 112 million plays. Three of his songs have already been on the #1 spot of the Chinese music charts with his single "It's Love" being on the top for a record nine straight weeks, which has not been broken to this day.
Zhang Jie has gained an enormous following over social media reaching the top and most trafficked platforms in China. He has amassed over 1.15 million followers on Baidu Tieba with over 60 million posts as well as 24 million followers on Sina Weibo. With numerous musical awards and records that have multi-platinum sales several times, Zhang Jie is one of the most popular musical artists in China today.
On Sunday night, Zhang Jie strolled in at the AMA's red carpet amid the flashing lights and alongside the most popular musicians in the world. During the awards ceremony, he was presented with the International Artist Award by well-known musical artist Pitbull. In his acceptance speech, Zhang Jie spoke of his favorite American artist Michael Jackson, and started singing the chorus of Heal the World. The crowd clapped and cheered loudly as they recognized and acknowledged one of the top Chinese stars who is trying to make an imprint on the world.
