New York, NY (Top40 Charts) He decided to use his song, "Taking," as the backdrop of a video to commemorate Rabin, who had worked hard to develop peaceful relations between Israelis and Palestinians.
Israeli musician, Snir Yamin, releases his music video, "Taking," on the 20th anniversary of the assassination of Rabin to promote a message of peace. The video presents footage that depicts violence and public rallies spurred by the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, followed by scenes of peace. The video highlights Israeli Prime
Minister and Defense
Minister Yitzhak Rabin shaking hands with then-Palestine Liberation Organization chairman, Yasser Arafat, with US President Bill Clinton looking on.
Yamin created the video in honor of Rabin, who was the first and only Israeli official to preside over a peace deal with Palestinians in the lands occupied by
Israel since the Six-Day War in 1967. He joined Arafat, once his sworn adversary, in signing the Oslo Accords in 1993, which granted Palestinians limited autonomy in the West Bank and Gaza and set a timetable for a permanent peace agreement between the two sides. Israeli right-wing conservatives and Likud party leaders opposed the Oslo peace process, saying it was an attempt to forfeit the occupied territories. On November 4, 1995, Rabin was gunned down by an Israeli ultranationalist named Yigal Amir, who strenuously opposed Rabin's peace initiative and particularly, the signing of the Oslo Accords.
Yamin grew up witnessing much of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict first-hand, and chose not to join the Israeli army due to his strong convictions against violence. He decided to use his song, "Taking," as the backdrop of a video to commemorate Rabin, who had worked hard to develop peaceful relations between Israelis and Palestinians.
Snir Yamin started his music career in 2006, after losing his father in a car accident. His music received media attention after two of his songs were played on Israeli radio stations and TV programs, including Reshet Gimel, Kol Israel, Galatz and 88 FM. They were also reviewed in Israeli music magazines and blogs. Snir performed throughout Israel, including at a charity benefit concert at the Barok venue in the city of Be'er Sheva, with some of the biggest names in the Israeli music scene, as well as Israeli Idol winners and Dana Lapidot. After traveling to the US in 2013, Snir Yamin recorded and released his four-track EP, Urban Stories, to international audiences on
September 20, 2013. With influences from
Damien Rice and John Mayer, Yamin's ballads speak of profound love and heartbreak.
