Cecile McLorin Salvant On Amoeba's 'What's In My Bag?'

New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Cécile McLorin Salvant stopped by Amoeba Music in San Francisco for a shopping trip and a chat for Amoeba's What's in My Bag? series, in which she picks up an expectedly eclectic selection of music by Puccini, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Charlie Parker, Abbey Lincoln, Björk ("What is there to say? Everyone knows she's incredible," Salvant of Björk and her 2011 Nonesuch album, Biophilia. "I love her. She inspires me deeply."), Patty Waters, Love, El Camarón De La Isla with Paco De Lucía, MF Doom, Chaka Khan, and Meat Puppets.

Salvant's own new album, Mélusine - a mix of originals and interpretations of songs dating as far back as the 12th century, mostly sung in French along with Occitan, English, and Haitian Kreyòl - was released earlier this year on Nonesuch Records. "Anyone who thinks they already know the full extent of Cécile McLorin Salvant's artistry should listen to Mélusine without further delay," exclaims Jazzwise. Cécile McLorin Salvant kicks off a ten-day tour of Asia next week, with performances in Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, after which she resumes her US tour.
