Jazz Singer Katini Yamaoka Releases Gone
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Jazz singer and recording artist, Katini Yamaoka, will release her debut album Gone on OneTrickDog*Records in a showcase performance at NeueHouse on November 3. Born in Tokyo to West African and Japanese parents, and raised in the Far East, Katini has drawn on her diverse cultural roots to create a distinctly modern sound that combines the high-tech urban edginess of J-music with the soulful melodic and poly-rhythmic traditions of classical jazz. Her years in Japan have led to a love of Coltrane and a fascination with the intimacy and the lived experience of improvisation. Gone effortlessly blends classical and modern urban styles, exploring the blurring of musical boundaries that is essential to contemporary jazz. Within this genre, Katini describes her style as "BGI" - brown girl iconic.

NeueHouse Madison Square is located at 110 East 25th Street in New York City. Showtime is at 7:00 pm. Listen to GONE at: www.katinimusic.com

Katini originally conceived this project in 2013, while she was traveling in Australia, Japan and Europe. The tracks include both new interpretations of traditional standards and her original music as arranged with her pianist Ben Rosenblum. Against the neuvo tango rhythms of the title track, Katini's sultry and melancholy vocals explore a story of the beauty and sadness of transient love. In contrast, "Forever Man" lets Katini dig into a more rock/blues vibe in an up-tempo track driven by the Wayne Tucker's extraordinary trumpet riffs and Tom Larsen's virtuosic guitar solo, while arrangements of "Real Folk Blues" and "Butterfly" offer jazz takes on more traditional J-music. The album is filled out with delicate renditions of classic standards, including the legendary "I Wish You Love".

Katini began her career in Japan, with JVC Victor Entertainment. She has performed at numerous venues in Japan, in Australia, at Kokos London, and at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Having recently settled in New York, she now performs regularly at the Boom Boom Room, the Blue Water Grill, and NeueHouse, and has performed at Madison Square Garden Theater and Rockwood Music Hall, among others.

She is accompanied on Gone by a group of accomplished jazz musicians, including Ben Rosenblum on the piano, Tamir Shmerling on bass, Wayne Tucker on trumpet, Darrian Douglas on drums, Ben Sutin on violin and blues artist, Tom Larsen, on guitar.
