Terri Lyne Carrington Projects Earn Four Grammy Nominations
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Terri Lyne Carrington's new STANDARDS Vol. 1 and Live At The Detroit Jazz Festival, released on Candid Records, have earned four GRAMMY Nominations between them. Each album was nominated in both the Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo category. Carrington, who is the producer and a performer on both albums, is an NEA Jazz Master, virtuoso jazz drummer, composer, interdisciplinary artist, activist, educator, 3-time GRAMMY winner and now a 7-time nominee.

new STANDARDS Vol. 1 is a groundbreaking album, created to uplift the voices of women composers in jazz, while Live At The Detroit Jazz Festival captures the historic 2017 performance by the multi-generational jazz supergroup of Wayne Shorter, Terri Lyne Carrington, esperanza spalding and Leo Genovese.

new STANDARDS Vol. 1, by Carrington, Kris Davis, Linda May Han Oh, Nicholas Payton, and Matthew Stevens, is nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and Best Improvised Jazz Solo for guest artist Ambrose Akinmusire's performance on "Rounds (Live)." The album features 11 recordings of songs from Carrington's new book, New Standards: 101 Lead Sheets By Women Composers (Hal Leonard/Berklee Press). The book, and album feature a remarkable range of acknowledged titans, young visionaries and unsung heroes in jazz. New Standards was born out of necessity, after Carrington was prompted to search for women composers in the infamous Real Book of jazz charts, and to her dismay, found virtually none.

New Standards has been celebrated by NPR, Billboard, The Guardian, Stereogum, a Jazziz cover story, Boston Globe and more for its groundbreaking mission and ambition. Read more about the project and the necessary fight for inclusivity in jazz in this The New York Times profile. Says the Guardian, "the pioneering Carrington is undoing the idea of jazz as a boys' club."

Live At The Detroit Jazz Festival by Wayne Shorter, Terri Lyne Carrington, Leo Genovese and esperanza spalding is nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Improvised Jazz Solo for Shorter and Genovese's performance on "Endangered Species". In a testament to the level of trust and respect these great artists share, the set was almost entirely improvised, leaving space for the spontaneous expression and assured interplay between these four leaders of the modern jazz world.
