The Voice Of Channel 4 And Freakshow: Composer And Voice-Οver Artist Ric Mills Releases 'Profoundly Piano'
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) His music (and voice) has been heard by millions worldwide but, like so many composers, few will know his name. This is all set to change with Profoundly Piano - A Personal Sketchbook, an album created by Ric Mills which, as the title suggests, finally gives him a voice of his own. Ric's career has seen him compose music for countless films and television programmes, whilst in a parallel life, he has been one of "the voices" of Channel Four (including the coveted job of introducing Big Brother) in the UK. Profoundly Piano is pure, unfettered Ric: moving, intriguing and definitively laid bare.
From the plaintive opening notes of the reassuring yet reflective Sarà Valsa la Pena to the sparse yet poignant Presente, Profoundly Piano is not an album which demands you follow a dictated narrative path but one which asks the listener to close their eyes and paint their own pictures. The journey you find yourself on may shift with each listen but at each stage you will ask questions of yourself as well as the music. The dynamic between silence and Ric's cultured zephyrs of melody reflect the shifting of human emotions, from joy to harmony to frustration. As Ric notes:
"We don't always do things perfectly and these sketchbooks of original compositions encapsulate that. They are well-meaning ideas that have grown for better or worse into something far different to what was expected".
Although this is only Ric Mills' second album, his involvement in the music industry has led to his music being heard by millions around the world. From his trailer music themes being used by Universal in Australia and the UK (garnering a nomination at the 2017 Production Music Awards in London) to his music being featured on the likes of The One Show, Horizon, E4's promo for Marvel's Agents of Shield and The Bachelor, his prolific output may not have seen his name in lights but his skill in affecting mood and capturing the essence of the moment is undeniable. As the man whose voice informed the nation of the last-ever episode of The Big Breakfast and the music behind current TV phenomenon, Freakshow, Ric Mills' journey to Profoundly Piano is worthy of a blockbuster theme itself.
