LOS ANGELES (Luis Fonsi/Britney Spears Official Websites) -
Santa Monica, California, June 10, 2002 - MCA/Universal
Latino artist
Luis Fonsi has two big reasons to celebrate this summer. Right on the heels of the July 2nd release of his English-language debut album, Fight The Feeling, Fonsi will hit the road opening for
Britney Spears on one leg of her U.S. summer arena tour. The dates kick off July 9th at New York's Nassau Coliseum and wind up July 22nd in Dallas (see below for full itinerary).
Fonsi's new album is his first all-English language release. The premiere single, "Secret," boasts a companion video (co-directed by Joey Fatone of 'N SYNC) which enjoyed its world-premiere on Nickelodeon last month. For the album, Fonsi brought in top European and American songwriter/producers, including Eclectic Productions (Christina Aguilera),
Underground Productions (LFO), Oliver Leiber, Steve Morales (Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias) and Rudy Perez. While recording Fight The Feeling, Fonsi simultaneously recorded Amor Secreto, his new Spanish language album, which was released on March 12th and debuted on the Billboard Heatseeker and Latin Album charts at #1, remaining there for two weeks straight. Amor Secreto includes the hit single "Quisiera Poder Olvidarme de Ti" and has sold over 200,000 copies to date.
Born and bred in Puerto Rico, Fonsi has lived in the United States since he was ten and is 100% bilingual. His first album Comenzare (1998) introduced him to the enormous worldwide Latin music market, took him to concert stages throughout Europe and Latin America, and earned him his first RIAA-Gold.
His follow-up, the Rudy Perez-produced album Eterno (2000), and its international chart-topping hits "Imaginame Sin Ti" and "Mi Sueno" (the latter written by Fonsi) catapulted him to the pinnacle of Latin music. Fonsi has been named Best New Male Pop Artist by the Globe Awards, Tu Musica, and Puerto Rico's Paoli.
