PORTLAND, Oregon (Top40 Charts/ OCP) - OCP announced the release of Luz Perpetua (Perpetual Light), a collection that gives Hispanic communities 52 songs for use in the funeral Mass, vigil, rite of committal and more.
Luz Perpetua provides Spanish and bilingual music to accompany all the ritual moments-all in one book. Commissioned especially for this project, settings include psalms, songs of farewell, antiphons, Gospel acclamations, intercessions and more. Almost all the texts are drawn directly from The Order of Christian Funerals/Ritual de Exequias Cristianas (approved for use in the U.S.).
Many well known composers contributed new material: Eleazar Cortes, Jaime Cortez, Santiago Fernandez, Bob Hurd, Lourdes Montgomery, Mary Frances Reza, Carlos Rosas, Pedro Rubalcava, and others. But many talented new composers are also represented here, including Peggy Contreraz and Frank Dominguez.
"This collection has many options for Hispanic communities to commend the souls of their loved ones to God," says Pedro Rubalcava, Director of Hispanic Ministries for OCP. "Using the richness of the official liturgical texts set to singable and expressive melodies, family and friends will be able to comfort one another and experience the hope of the resurrection of the Lord."
Styles range from traditional chant to folkloric styles with Latin rhythms. All songs are accessible to the average parish music ministry team. The extensive indexes and pastoral notes make good liturgy-preparation guides.
Funerals are as much a part of parish life as baptisms and weddings. With Luz Perpetua, Hispanic parishes finally have the music they need to prepare beautiful liturgies that meet their unique cultural and spiritual needs.
