LOS ANGELES, January 20, 2006—This time Brazilian Carnaval in Los Angeles happens on Saturday, February 25, 2006, the same day as Rio de Janeiro begins its four-day carnaval celebration. This year's theme is the World Cup Championship that will take place in Germany from June 9 through July 9, in which Brazil is one of the favorites to win its 6th title (the most any country has ever won). At the heart of the 2006 celebration is renown percussionist ROBERTINHO SILVA with the REMO DRUMS accompanied by CHALO EDUARDO & the Samba Pimps, performing vibrant and energetic carnaval beats at the QUEEN MARY in Long Beach. The party, which starts at 8:00 p.m., also features KATIA MORAES & Pure Samba with Marchinhas, Sambas and Frevo. NAYZETH performs AXÈ music of Bahia and the OYA Samba Show Dancers moving to batucada rhythms in their feather-sequined bikini costumes.

ROBERTINHO SILVA, is without a doubt one of the most significant Brazilian artists of the last decades. His art is in playing the drums. Internationally renowned for his innovative fusion of indigenous Brazilian and North American jazz rhythms—and especially for his work with singer-composer Milton Nascimento over the past 25 years—trap drum master Robertinho Silva displays his mastery of both genres on his new Milestone CD, Shot On Goal (Perigo de Gol).Like his U.S. debut Speak No Evil, which was released on Milestone last year, Shot On Goal is a rich, brilliantly conceived pastiche of musical styles held together by the leader's consummate artistry; it is certain to expand the global following for Silva's mesmerizing, genre-blending music. His discography includes contributions on recordings of Milton Nascimento, João Donato, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Wayne Shorter, Paul Horn, George Duke, Egberto Gismonti, Airto Moreira, Flora Purim, Raul de Souza, Dori Caymmi, Cal Tjader, Sarah Vaughn, Gilberto Gil, Toninho Horta and most recently Lisa Ono and Guilherme Vergueiro.

Robertinho Silva comes directly from Brazil to work in conjunction with the students of the percussion company REMO Inc., known for their weekly drum circles. CHALO EDUARDO & the Samba Pimps join Robertinho in a series of Carnaval Rhythms in the opening and Grand Finale of the Carnaval. Chalo Eduardo has shared the world's stages with superstars Sergio Mendes and Carlos Santana ... that's just a sampling of the dream-come-true musical career of this percussionist. Presently, Eduardo is the World Percussion Product Manager for Remo Inc. in Valencia, California. His talents and love for Brazilian music and its rhythms have earned him the respect of his peers as well as a signature line of products from Remo World Percussion. They will be parading and simulating the street carnaval throughout the party.

KATIA MORAES & Pure Samba performs a perfect blend of dynamic harmonies and exhilarating rhythms, the best of Brazilian Carnaval. The band enchants audiences with the richest sounds of Brazil; a mix of samba, marchinhas (traditional carnaval sambas), pagode, and frevo. Katia's energetic presence is beautifully complimented by the explosive power of percussion, and outstanding keyboards, guitar and bass. Los Angeles Times quote "... She comes on stage like an explosion, her body in constant motion, her voice excited and dynamic." NAYZETH and her band adds to the night the best of the Bahian Carnaval. The band enchants audiences with the richest sounds of Bahia; a mix of samba-reggae, axè music and trio electrico. Nayzeth's distinctive vocals are beautifully complimented by the explosive power of Bahian percussion, and outstanding keyboards, guitar and bass. The band was formed by some of the most talented musicians in LA such as: Antonio de Sant'ana (base & arrangements), Leo Costa (drums), Mitchell Long (guitar), Pablo Medina (keyboard), JB (percussion). Many were amazed by Nayzeth's deep voice, dancing rhythm, talent, remarkable performances as well as the ability to play one of Brazil's most difficult instruments, the Pandeiro.

The OYA Brazil Samba Show Dancers, led by director-choreographer Daniela, complete the party as they offer its audiences a visual feast with extravagant performances of samba, lambada, pagode, and capoeira, a traditional martial arts dance. Comprised of a diverse team of talented dancers, this local ensemble of 15 radiates with sheer energy and passion. This exuberant exotic show was created authentically in Brazil. Brazilian mysticism, folklore, energy, creativity and enthusiasm radiates from the performances. Using all the best dancers and singers of Brazil, the performers themselves represent the many cultural backgrounds of the people in Brazil, bringing to life a resemblance of the colors of Brazil. ''...Brazilian Carnaval took over on Saturday night to celebrate with a wildly extravagant music party...Hot, hot samba on a chilly L.A. evening... ... the sequined and feathered OYA BRAZIL SAMBA SHOW dancers, vigorously demonstrating the correct way to do the samba...' Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times
