ST. LOUIS, MO. (Top40 Charts/ Urge Official Website) After a nearly decade-long hiatus, St. Louis, Missouri-based rock band, The Urge, is bringing their unique sound back to the music scene with a hot new single, "Say Yeah." The tune is already receiving heavy airplay in their hometown, as well as regionally throughout the Midwest.
Known and loved for their frenetic onstage energy and intense live shows, the band carved out a niche for themselves in the mid-to-late 90s with hits like "Jump Right In," "Brainless," and "Too Much Stereo." Members Steve Ewing, Karl Grable, Jerry Jost, John Pessoni, Bill Reiter and Matt Kwiatkowski, are excited to deliver a new incarnation of The Urge sound to their fans.
"It's been really exciting working in the studio together for the first time in 10 years," says singer Steve Ewing. "We had been talking about doing it for a while, and now that we've finally gotten everybody together, the music has really blossomed. It feels almost effortless, so we're really hyped up and ready to get out there and play together again!"
Missing the amazing chemistry they shared during their 14-year run as a band, The Urge realized that the bond they shared musically was something very special.
"I really missed the creative outlet of the band," admits bassist Karl Grable. "There was just something really unique about what we did creatively, and I think we kind of own our own throne with the sound, particularly with the vibe of our live shows. It'll be great to get back out there and recreate that for the fans, who have remained so loyal all these years."
Those fans will be happy to know that the band is coming back with some brand new music, due out this winter. Being free of the constraints of a major label has fired up the band's untamed energy more than ever before, according to Grable.
"The music that we are making now is similar to that of our earlier CDs, but with a newfound maturity. It's really refreshing to actually create music in our own studio without any boundaries or A&R reps questioning our every move."
"Oh, you'll know it's The Urge when you hear it," says Ewing. "The different voices, the horns - but it's heavier, and it's gotten funkier. Just because we can! I hope the fans are ready, because we're gonna bring it!" adds Ewing, laughing.
The band will bring their legendary live show back to their hometown on September 10, when they perform their first gig together as a reunited band headlining KPNT's Pointfest at the Verizon Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, MO. The show will no doubt be quite the welcome back bash for the band, which has performed on the Pointfest stage many times during its storied career.
