New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Denver, Colorado's perpetrators of noisy Americana, NEW BEN FRANKLINS, celebrate their 25th anniversary as a band in 2017. To commemorate the anniversary, the band will be releasing its seventh full-length album, What Happens When Things Fall Apart, on March 17. The release will be available worldwide on CD and digital download.
What Happens When Things Fall Apart is an intimate collection of songs that run the full gamut of the Franklins' oeuvre. Never a band to stick to a particular "sound," the band touches on many musical flavors on this new record; from the driving and thick rhythms and heavy guitars of "Burning From The Inside" to the Southwestern flavor of "Home," as well as a very Jesus and Mary Chain-inspired "The Devil In Me." The songs range in sound and texture, but each has a very personal feel to the lyric. The album seems to find songwriter/singer David DeVoe reflecting on his life to this point, as well as his interpersonal relationships. Never one to write light-hearted fare, What Happens When Things Fall Apart is a darker collection of songs that hearkens back to the mid-90s Franklins on many levels.
What Happens When Things Fall Apart features contributions from numerous Denver area musicians. DeVoe gathered together not only members (and former members) of New Ben Franklins but friends from the Denver musical community to help create the texture and sound of the album. The result is a remarkably focused and well-produced collection of songs.
The first single from the record, an alternate version of title track "What Happens When Things Fall Apart" was released on January 1, 2017. The b-side to the single is a re-working of the Jerry Harrison song "Man With A Gun" done in a very NBF' voice. The single can be downloaded for free at https://newbenfranklins.bandcamp.com/album/what-happens-when-things-fall-apart-single .
New Ben Franklins will also be digitally re-releasing a collection of their three albums from the 1990s in early summer of 2017 to further celebrate the anniversary.
