Native Harrow Share New Song And Flared-Out Video For "Smoke Burns" From Forthcoming Album Closeness (September 18)

New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Native Harrow have shared "Smoke Burns," the latest preview from their forthcoming new album Closeness (September 18/Loose), accompanied by a brilliantly impressionistic video - filmed with nothing more than a hand-held camera and some smoke flares - in rural Pennsylvania. American Songwriter has the premiere, hailing the "dynamic love song" for its "lofty vocals and layered instrumentation."

Opening with singer/songwriter Devin Tuel's incantation: Smoke burns so clearly whenever you're around, "Smoke Burns" eases the listener into Native Harrow's distinctive soundworld; delicate fingerpicked acoustic guitar accompanied by sparse percussion and disembodied lap steel, hovering just above the horizon. It seems unfair how much we don't know about the ways we can get burned, Tuel continues, before turning a familiar phrase - cuts like a knife - on its head, repurposing it to describe the deepest kind of love.

"I thought about love songs and how in them writers are often using analogy or metaphor to convey their feelings," says Tuel. "I wanted to compare love to things that are in contrast - smoke being clear and a knife cutting and making you wiser. A love that is both challenging, necessary, and leaves you a better person. A sheltering place perhaps. Time is hard on us, it is unfair, but love, whether it be romantic or otherwise is, I believe, an important piece of armor to weather the storms of life."

"Smoke Burns" follows two other pre-release tracks from Closeness which have been hailed as "exceptional" (WXPN), and "expansive...effortless...exquisite" (Uncut).
