New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Pontus H.W. Gunve, New York based composer and guitarist is releasing his new EP titled IV on February 12, 2016. Pre-orders of the Digital Release will be starting February 1st, 2016. His previous music releases went under the name PHWG - but now he will be known simply as Pontus. This is his fourth solo release and second full band Progressive Rock release. The Observer (previous album) was released in 2013 with high reviews in multiple blogs, progressive magazines, and webzines. This new release is more focused a live recording feel and a new concept of musical story telling. The entire studio recording session took place over 9 hours in July of 2015 - and the recording process was video taped and these clips will be available alongside the Digital Launch.

Musically, Pontus has been compared to artist such as Dream Theater, King Crimson, Yes (Steve Howe), Bryan May (Queen) - but he has been found to have unique style, something in between Progressive Metal and Classical / World fusion. IV explores traditional Progressive Rock from the early 70's with complex time signature, which can be heard in the opening track TEN. But IV also relies heavily on melodic structure and traditional storytelling trough instrumental passages, an example of this would be El Pancho's Last Journey.

This new release - IV - features four original compositions and one remake of the traditional eastern tune Misirlou, popularized by Dick Dale and The Beach Boys in the Surf Rock era. Each composition has it's own story and character unique to that tune.

Performers on this release is Pontus H.W. Gunve on electric guitar, Tripp Dudley on drums and tabla, Eric Allen on the cello, and Bryan Percivall on the bass.

Track List:
1.) Ten
2.) Misirlou
3.) El Panchos Last Journey
4.) Red Silver
5.) Felix

Pontus BIO
Pontus H.W. Gunve - Pontus
Pontus H.W. Gunve is a Swedish composer and performer based in New York City. His approach to song-writing and performing is refreshingly simple: music is first and foremost supposed to be a form of expression, a way to portray moods, thoughts, feeling and ideas, regardless of the format. With such a mindset, it simply does not make any sense to get stuck in a box and limit your sonic avenues to a single genre. This is why Pontus and his band set out to refine their own blend of progressive instrumental rock.

Pontus' music echoes the work of an impressionist painter: the lines are never particularly defined, but this allows the greater picture to feel a lot more alive and full of movements: anything can happen when the rules are flexible! His rock background led to the electric guitars becoming a prominent element of his sound, but Pontus and is always keen on experimenting: this is why he has included Cello and Tabla, being non traditional rock instruments, to provide an ample sonic palette to this recording.

It's all about organic textures, fascinating soundscapes and intricate melodies that introduce the audience to a kaleidoscope of sounds, emotions and ideas.
