LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) The 86th Academy Awards have officially ended, with 12 Years a Slave nabbing best picture! The winners have accepted their statuettes at the 86th Annual Academy Awards show at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
"12 Years a Slave" ultimately took home the honors for its incredible story of Solomon Northup, a free man who struggles to survive as a slave in pre-Civil War America, while Lupita Nyong'o gave a touching tribute speech for her Best Supporting Actress win for the same film.
"
Gravity" also proved to be a big winner on Sunday, stealing seven academy awards from Best
Director through to Best Visual Effects, even though
Sandra Bullock lost out on her Best Actress award to Cate Blanchett who was "blown away" by her win for "Blue Jasmine."
Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto took home Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively for their unforgettable performances in "Dallas Buyers Club."
Oscars host
Ellen DeGeneres went to great lengths to fill the frame of a cellphone self-portrait with a veritable who's who of Hollywood stars - including Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt - and the resulting photograph was a hit: Within minutes of DeGeneres posting the photo on Twitter, the photo racked up more than half a million re-tweets and 300,000 favorites.
Ellen took the picture in a stunt gunning to smash the record for the most re-Tweeted photo of all time, in less than an hour.
The record holder was a photo of US President Barack Obama hugging his wife Michelle after his re-election victory, which has more than 779,000 re-tweets.
Stepping into the audience, DeGeneres recruited Meryl Streep, Lawrence, Pitt, Roberts, Bradley Cooper,
Kevin Spacey, Lupita Nyong'o and her brother, among others, to take the selfie with her!
