Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ FILM2MUSIC) - A screening of short works created for the CINEMATIC CD FILM2MUSIC project will be hosted by the Sundance Institute Film Music Program at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Ninety-four filmmakers from all over the world "visually scored" a track of their choice from composer Kubilay Üner's instrumental album CINEMATIC. The interpretations include live action and animation, narrative and abstract. Proviso: No other audio besides the original music.

A jury of six renowned filmmakers (writer/director Michael Polish, producers James C. Hart, Jackie George and Clark Peterson, animator/producer Dave Bossert, and cinematographer M. David Mullen, ASC) determined the winners and finalists, while a worldwide Internet audience picked the popular favorite.

Winning films and select finalists were introduced at a private reception and screening in Hollywood on January 9th, 2007, in advance of the screening at Sundance. The winners are:

GRAND PRIZE WINNER: Adrian Picardi for "His Day to Remember." Using the raw, percussive chant-driven track "Steel & Sky," Picardi created a visually compelling drama about a young man who is an apparent suicide bomber. His winnings include a $10,000 cash prize and a meeting with Paradigm agent Ken Greenblatt.

SECOND PRIZE WINNER: Peter Borrud for "A Shopping Cart Named Desire." This light-hearted short film about temptation and true love, illustrated with shopping carts, was inspired by the album's opening track "Nickel Candy Quarter til Three." Borrud wins $1,000 cash.

SECOND PRIZE WINNER: M. Abraham Spear for "Flower." In a more abstract departure from the other contestants, the time-lapse imagery of this film follows the bloom and fade of a potted Amaryllis flower in a corner window, set against the intimate and haunting track "Good-Bye, Sweet Night." Spear also takes home a $1,000 cash prize.

ONLINE AUDIENCE AWARD WINNER: Lisa Temple for "The Bear & The Geisha." This sweet film about the serendipity of love was inspired by track No 4, "Of Dust Moats and God Rays." As the online popular favorite earning the most public votes, Temple wins $5,000.

Kubilay Üner's CD CINEMATIC was released in 2006. Inspired by his work scoring films, the CD features twelve tracks of acoustic instruments and electronic sounds designed to conjure up vivid images and evolving stories in the listener's mind. The idea for the contest came about when Üner was approached by several different filmmakers expressing interest in shooting a short film to a track from the new CD.

Says Üner, "The music is intended to transport the listener, like films without words or pictures. So the notion of being able to see how filmmakers would interpret the tracks from CINEMATIC was very tempting. A call for entries was a natural next step. We received films from around the world, and I'm excited to showcase highlights at the Sundance Film Festival."
