New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Leyla McCalla's sophomore release 'A Day For The Hunter, A Day For The Prey' (Jazz Village/Harmonia Mundi) comes out tomorrow and is being met with raves. Leyla will be featured on NPR's Weekend Edition this weekend and has been profiled by a host of outlets ranging from Billboard and Afropunk to Amy Poehler's Smart Girls. Leyla and her band launch an international summer and fall tour this week with many new dates announced including performances in New York and LA this fall.
This new album from the multi-instrumentalist, multi-lingual singer and former Carolina Chocolate Drop is a swirling mix of originals and interpretations of songs from deep within the canons of Haitian, Cajun, Creole, jazz and folk music. It depicts a deeply personal and diverse American experience as lived by Leyla as a Haitian American residing in New Orleans. It features guest appearances by Rhiannon Giddens, Marc Ribot, Louis Michot of Lost Bayou Ramblers, her husband
Daniel Tremblay and others.
