Boston, MA (Top40 Charts/ Mongrel Media) - 'Hockey, the Greatest Game in the Land', the first single from the original motion picture soundtrack to Score: A Hockey Musical is now available in stores and on-line. Performed by Hawksley Workman, the song is a rousing tribute to Canada's national sport: 'On ponds and on rinks and on Olympic stages, Canadians have played it all through the ages. It's part of our hearts, part of our psyche. Our country bleeds red, white and hockey'. When Workman performed the song after the film's screening as the opening night gala at the Toronto Film Festival in September, he, and the film received a standing ovation from a packed Roy Thomson Hall. The film opened galas at Halifax, Sudbury, Calgary and Edmonton Festivals this fall and is poised to open on more screens than any other Canadian film ever has in Canada.

The soundtrack will be available on October 19, just four days before the film opens across Canada on October 22. Along with Nelly Furtado' s cover of the Rush song 'Time Stand Still', the album includes 20 original songs by Barenaked Ladies, Hawksley Workman, Olivia Newton-John, Marc Jordan and Amy Sky, with lyrics by filmmaker Michael McGowan. The soundtrack is released on Orange Lounge Recording/inDiscover and Universal Music Canada. Available at digital retailers including iTunes, HMVdigital, 7digital.ca, Puretracks, Archambault, Rogers, TELUS, Aeroplan, Music Store, MSN Music Store, SCENE Music Store, Napster and eMusic as well as at conventional outlets.

The film, which combines musical numbers with Canada's national sport, stars Olivia Newton-John (Grease, TV's Glee) and singer/songwriter Marc Jordan ( 'Rhythm of My Heart'), newcomers Noah Reid and Allie MacDonald, with cameos by artists Nelly Furtado, Workman and John McDermott, journalists George Stroumboulopoulos and Evan Solomon, sports anchor Stephen Kouleas, hockey's Walter Gretzky and star Theo Fleury.

The film tells the story of Farley, a teenage hockey phenomenon (Reid). Much to the dismay of his intellectual parents (Newton-John and Jordan) and best friend (MacDonald), Farley goes from obscurity to overnight fame. But Farley finds that hockey stardom comes with a price - including the expectation to fight. Unlike other musicals, the lyrics (by McGowan) drive the plot.

The cast also includes Stephen McHattie (Watchmen, The Rocket) as the team owner, John Pyper-Ferguson (Hard Core Logo, TV's Brothers & Sisters) as the coach, Brandon Firla (TV's Little Mosque on the Prairie) as an agent, Dru Viergever as Farley's enforcer, John Robinson as the team trainer, and Gianpaolo Venuta as a would-be suitor. Shot on location in Toronto, Score: A Hockey Musical is directed by Michael McGowan (One Week, Saint Ralph), who also wrote the script and song lyrics. It is a Mulmur Feed Co. Production, produced by McGowan and Avi Federgreen, and executive produced by Richard Hanet and Jody Colero. Colero and Marco DiFelice are song supervisors.
